周晓华在医疗费用分析方面针对主要难点,即其分布的三个特殊特征,这些特征可能导致费用偏离正态性:(1)众多费用为零的观测值(2)高花费的观测值导致的偏态分布(重尾);(3)异方差。如果不考虑这些特征,医疗花费数据的统计分析可能会产生误导。周晓华和合作者开发了许多新的统计方法,适用于医疗保健花费的分析,在JASA,Biometrika,Biometrics等统计顶级期刊上发表了25篇以上的论文。
